INK experiment
19.2.16
Here are some experiments that we tried and some updates about the direction we want this project to go in.
Our idea was originally to project light onto underside of cd. Place in water then put ink into water - film in 96 fps to capture ink falling and the light that bounces off of the CD. Unfortunately for the shoot I left my blank CDs that I bought at home so we couldn't use them. However, we had a little test with stuff and we got some cool results. Perhaps a tip for experiments whilst adjusting the properties of the ink, perhaps by adjusting the temperature of the water, or adding different physical objects into the ink itself, like bits of dirt or sand or little miniatures. In this 'Making Of' of a music video we can see some of the practical effects the crew
After a tutorial and presentation yesterday (18/2/16), we realised that although our experiments are good and are on the right track, they lack context and need some kind of driving concept to push forward the project. This got me thinking and I came up with a rough draft of a concept that needs more research, but is a good springboard to more, hopefully better ideas.
Concluding our experiments, I had the idea of looking at the concept of suspending objects in water using nylon strings, and using the inks and paints and different materials to give the illusion that the - about the concept of being suspended in space, stuck in some kind of limbo between existing in reality and existing in a space not bound by a sense of time or urgency. I am intrigued by the concept of metaphysics. Metaphysics is a type of philosophy or study that uses broad concepts to help define reality and our understanding of it. It can also be defined as
"Philosophy. concerned with abstract thought or subjects, as existence, causality, or truth. concerned with first principles and ultimate grounds, as being, time, or substance."
Maybe I am diving headfirst into an incredibly difficult subject, but I intend to explore this a little more and look into the nuances of
OTHER IDEAS
Smoke, lights, projection - create ethereal images by ustilising different and unique elements. Experiment my throwing powdered paint into the air and putting the light through different cut out shapes.
