Last week, myself and Duane, the sound designer for Wallpaper did a script breakdown, going line by line and scene by scene imagining all the sounds for each element of the script. We want to get an incredibly clear idea of what sounds we need and how we intend to achieve them. We have organised it as follows:
First of all we have our page and scene number. We then have the sound that we envisage for the action of the scene followed by ideas on how to achieve what we have come up with. On the far right hand side you can see some notes containing any additional information about the sounds (just a side note, there are 19 scenes). What was perhaps the most useful part of doing this was that it compartmentalises each action of the script, and forces us to think about how we will approach building a library of sounds.
Voice over Recordings

| In the sound studio |
A week or so ago I fulfilled part of my role as sound recordist and recorded voice overs in the sound studio for the Indiegogo campaign set to launch later this month. This challenged me as I had to quickly sure up my knowledge of ProTools and recording in a studio environment (I haven't done it since last January). I named each individual track, and the ProTools file has been backed up 3 times (which means they will be safe, hopefully).
Indiegogo Shoot - Haslemere Theatre
I also tagged along to the test that our DP Klara and Gimbal Operator, Tom did on location in Haslmere. I booked out the Zoom H4N and experimented with recording some of the sounds of the theatre and the secret room. I found some really interesting sounds, and was really able to grasp the atmosphere of the location, and find sounds in unusual places.
It feels really good to put the skills I haven learnt over the last 2 and a bit years into proper practice. I feel as though I am really starting to develop as a creative professional. As though my skill set is becoming more rounded with each day that I practice it.
Anyway, lots of exciting things happening this month! Cannot wait to show you all more of what I've been up to.
