Experimental Sound Production
11.1.15
Straight back into a new project. For our first immersion piece we are tasked with creating an experimental sound piece based on a piece of artwork depicting a journey or a change based on our own personal interpretation.
The artwork that I have been assigned is 'Study after Velasquez's portrait of Pope Innocent X' (England 1953) By Francis Bacon.
Immediately I thought of that bit in Raiders of the Lost Ark, where the Nazis open up the Ark of the Covenant. (link below)
This piece by Francis Bacon is somewhat mystifying. I find it to show the role of the pope as a mediator between man and God, with the Pope struggling between the vices and temptations of the world and his duty to his God. These religious connotations push me towards creating a more supernatural soundtrack. Not necessarily a scary kind of supernatural, but to give the listener a sense of something other-worldly and powerful.
This is all conjecture at the moment, and is basically me just getting ideas down so I can come back later. But right now I am excited for this project, and cannot wait to get into the studio to record some sounds.
